During the development of East State St. in Athens, OH, a hillside with a historic farmhouse was leveled to make way of a shopping mall and plaza. The corbel forms represent landscape, historic architectural adornment, and replication of natural forms in the handmade object. The corbels are cut to accommodate the modular modern architectural form and their recession into the floor reflects the decline of ornate architectural adornment. The modular form is derived from the negative space in a polystyrene shipping container
